With the first two weeks out of the way, things are settling down and the team is finding its groove. The first week is jam packed with meetings and the excitement of new athletes, and seeing the old, familiar faces again. Unfortunately, I had class the first week of practice and didn’t get to run with the team. I remember as a freshman being so nervous but excited for that first week. Like the naïve runner I was, I tried to run up front every day and push the pace. Silly looking back now... as if anyone wins any kind of award the first week of practice! This first week, while I ran on my own I wondered if any of the new freshmen were pushing the pace and trying to prove themselves like I had my first week. . silly how the cycle continues.

The week went by awfully fast and before I knew it, it was Friday night and I was getting my stuff ready for the time trial in the morning - I couldn’t believe it. I ran the time trial my freshmen year but was injured the past two years and had to watch from the sidelines. I was nervous but mostly excited that I was healthy and able to run compared to last year. I told myself that it didn’t matter what happened in the time trial.. good or bad.. running it sure beats being in the pool or on the bike!

The trial of time went pretty well! We had a nice group of us up in front working together and some surprises from some people who haven’t been healthy enough to run the time trial in the past. All of the freshman ran really well.. possibly our best time trial in years!! A successful first tempo!
