Ryan Haebe
Ryan, a freshman from Evergreen, turned in a stunning performance this past weekend with a fourth-place finish at the WSC Mountaineer Open. Haebe's time of 24:22 was good enough for third on the team, although Haebe competed without a jersey. In just his second collegiate race, Ryan did a fantastic job of moving up throughout the course of the race, whcih culminated in a fine kick over the final 200 meters. Haebe figures to redshirt this season with the intention of saving a year of eligibility for later in what figures to be a very bright career. A sixth-place finisher in both the 1600 and 3200 at the Colorado 4A State Meet this past Spring, Haebe is part of a talented group of Freshman runners for the Mountaineers.
Annika Haughwout
Annika is our Female Athlete of the Week after her bounce back performance this past Saturday. Annika, unpleased with her first race this season at Adams State, rebounded with a terrific effort at the WSC Mountaineer Open. In the midst of the longest block of training in her career, Annika turned in a solid performance despite "training through" the early races. Annika's time of 19:53 was good for fifth-place overall and second on the team. Haughwout's improvements can be attributed to a solid summer of training and tremendous dedication throughout her career. Next up for Annika and the rest of the top-7 men and women is the Oklahoma State Jamboree next Saturday. Be sure to follow her and the rest of the Mountaineers the rest of the season.
Congrats to Ryan and Annika and good luck this year!
